Internet Tablet Talk has the scoop on the N810! This is the next internet tablet and it has a slide out keyboard! This is a awesome addition to the Nokia series of internet tablets. Stay tuned to the temporary blog for internet tablet talk (in case the main site is flooded) for more information.
Did some googling and found the Release Notes:
- Improved quality of WLAN connections
- Wi-Fi certification included
OK…that works. My WiFi was a bit iffy at home but was ok at work (where there is no WPA….don’t ask!).
I just checked the download site for the Nokia 770 and a new version of the firmware is out. It’s called OS 2006 Edition version 3.2006.49-2. I have loaded it on my 770 and it seems to be a bit zipper. I wish I knew what was fixed, but the release notes have not been posted to the Nokia site yet.
Since I had to rebuild my 770 after the firmware update, I also discover that SpotYah has finally had updates for Python 2.5 which has been available for quite sometime. Check it out here.
I also got Bashpodder working yet again on the 770. Here’s a hint…put the script on your MMC and then all you have to do is install wget and osso-xterm. You don’t need bash. It runs fine under sh. Run it by typing: sh bashpodder.shell at the prompt . You have to do this because your running off of a FAT16 or FAT32 (not sure which…) filesystem and the Unix permisisons just do not exist for sh to check.
I was listening to today’s Daily Source Code and Nokia apparantly gave Adam Curry as a gift a new Nokia N800. While Patricia and Christina don’t necessarily like it, Adam does and he says screw the iPhone and let’s do something like this. Build better stuff on Open Source and Apple Inc. will have to open up more.
If you are buried under a rock and have not listened to the Daily Source Code, listen to today’s show and then subscribe!
I was listening to Ken Radio’s World Tech Roundup and co-host Andy Abramson, stated that the Nokia 770 is the biggest and most popular Linux based appliance ever. I wonder if it’s true?
I do know that he was right about CompUSA not being able to keep it in stock. During Christmas, as soon as it was in stock online, it sold out. I guess he’s right.
This post was tapped out on my 770!
The Nokia N800 is now official with the Nokia website, being updated. This is a great device and I am looking forward to getting one. Or, if Nokia wants, they can send me one and I will review it here! 😉
Anyway, the N800 has some important things that can definitely help move things forward a bit. The extra CPU power is awesome, the memory updates needed but I see one thing that will stop some people from buying it. One thing with mobile tech is that people like to take them with them and that includes to work. The only issue is the device has a camera integrated. Some workplaces, not mine, but some workplaces will not allow this because it’s a security risk and this brings up my one beef. According to the maemo website, IT2007 isn’t supported on the 770 yet and this leaves 770 owners and those who go with the 770 to avoid the camera issue left behind support wise. There’s supposed to be a update soon, but that’s only taking the 770 to Maemo 2.2. Will this update include the new Opera 8 browser and Flash 7? If it did, I could then use it on YouTube. As it stands now, it’s not possible.
